Poisoned Soil — entry VII. Shiya names the fracture so nobody can romanticize it badly.
The cup in Shiya’s hand had been broken before. The gold repair seam had aged into the glaze — fine as a hairline scar. Most of Shadowlily would have chosen it instinctively without admitting why.
Hiyori glanced at it once.
— You chose that deliberately.
— Obviously.
“They keep living the principle without naming it,” Shiya said.
“Most people prefer symbols to definitions.”
— Most people are lazy.
She traced the gold seam with her thumb.
— Kintsugi is not a promise that breakage was worth it.
— Nor redemption. Nor the useful fiction that pain becomes beautiful simply because someone survived it.
— It is visibility. The break remains. The repair remains. Neither lies.
Hiyori listened without steering, which was rarer than people understood.
— That is why you say it aloud.
— Yes. Named, it can be chosen.
“People mistake the gold for decoration,” Shiya said.
— It is structural.
Hiyori’s gaze moved to Shiya’s face and stayed there.
“Which part do you inhabit?”
— All of it.
— That is very nearly a confession.
— An inventory.
— Not beautifying the break. Simply refusing to hide the repair.
— That is why, when you say it, it becomes a philosophy.
