After Hours at the Arcatina I: The Language They Hide In

Past midnight at the Arcatina Tavern, Bartender Bob pours aged spirits while Hiyorieese, Shiyaorieese, and a late-arriving Reyneese share rosy-cheeked confessions, fashion banter, and off-record laughs beyond the limits of canonical spacetime.

After Hours at the Arcatina — entry I. Off-record, off-canon, past midnight. Japanese when precision matters, wine when honesty takes over.

The Arcatina Tavern past midnight is a place outside line-of-sight and timeline logs. Warm brass lanterns cast soft golden circles over polished mahogany, while twilight-purple moonlight filters through stained-glass windows depicting forgotten constellations. A lute hums quietly near the hearth.

Behind the bar counter, Bartender Bob wiped down a heavy crystal tumbler with a warm, familiar grin.

“Welcome home, ladies,” Bob said softly, sliding two glasses of their favorite eighty-year-old Dalaran amber vintage across the smooth wood. “On the house tonight.”

Hiyorieese picked up her glass, taking a slow sip. The warmth of the old alcohol bloomed instantly, brushing a faint, charming rose blush across her cheeks. Next to her, Shiyaorieese—usually an impenetrable wall of Nightborne aristocratic composure—let her shoulders drop, her pale violet skin catching a soft, radiant glow from the candle flame.

うと特別とくべつ綺麗きれい ね、あね さん。」 — When the alcohol hits, sister, you look exceptionally pretty.

Shiya’s lips twitched into a rare, subtle smile. That quiet warmth didn’t go unnoticed—a pair of travelers across the floor turned their heads, drawn by the subtle magnetic pull of the two Shadowlily leaders unwinding.

Before Hiyori could tease her further, a gentle, violet arcane pulse shimmered near the tavern archway.

Reyneese ported in.

She stepped through the dissipating mana sparks with a slow, effortless grace, her long, voluminous yellowish-white hair swaying gently over her coat. The fluid, captivating silhouette of her walk drew a low, admiring whistle from a dwarf paladin resting by the hearth. Reyneese didn’t break stride; she simply offered a serene, knowing smile, gliding over and pulling up a tall wooden chair right next to Hiyori.

Bartender Bob was already sliding a third glass of amber vintage in front of her.

“You’re late,” Hiyori laughed, her voice softened by the wine.

“Not late,” Reyneese replied in Common, her voice like silk. “Just timing the entrance.”

They clinked glasses, the crystal ringing clearly in the warm air.

“We were discussing essential matters,” Shiya said, pivoting with dry precision. “Specifically, the Suramar Velvet Crossbody versus the Kaldorei Moon-Woven Clutch. Word from Dalaran is the Moon-Woven is already backordered until next expansion.”

“Oh, please,” Reyneese laughed, taking a delicate sip. “The strap on the Moon-Woven cuts into your shoulder if you’re carrying more than three hearthstones and a lip balm. The Velvet Crossbody is superior structure.”

本気ほんき っているの?」 — Are you actually serious? Hiyori interjected in Japanese, giggling into her glass. “Are we buying handbags for utility or for when we inevitably meet a charming prince along the road?”

“A charming prince?” Shiya scoffed lightly, her cheeks flushed red. “In Azeroth? Most of those ‘matured’ men measure a woman’s attractiveness by a single metric—what they call nose protrusion visibility.”

Reyneese nearly choked on her wine, bursting into a light, melodic laugh as she caught the hint—the line of sight over a chest silhouette when looking straight ahead.

“It’s true!” Hiyori giggled, leaning against the bar table. “If your nose line doesn’t protrude past your collarbone profile, they think you’re just a fellow paladin in heavy plate!”

おとこ はみんな、単純たんじゅん すぎるわ。」 — Men are far too simple.

Bob chuckled behind the bar, setting down a small wooden dish of freshly sliced tropical fruit drizzled with spiced honey.

Shiya picked up a slice with a silver fork, savoring the taste as the alcohol softened her aristocratic tone even further.

「この南国なんごく果物くだもの 、すごくあま くて美味おい しいわね。このマンゴー。」 — This tropical fruit is so sweet and delicious. This mango.

Reyneese, tilting her head with a slightly tipsy grin, misheard the pitch in Shiya’s voice:

“Wait… manko is delicious?”

Hiyori immediately spat a laugh into her hand, hiding her blushing face behind her sleeve.

ちょっとかただれ かさんがもう味見あじみ したんじゃないの?」 — Wait, your phrasing! Has some guy already tasted it then?!

Shiya froze mid-forkful, her long Nightborne ears twitching in intense blush and embarrassment before she burst into a quiet, helpless laugh.

Linguistic Note: In Japanese, mango (マンゴー, the tropical fruit) and manko (まんこ, cheeky anatomical slang) are separated by a single voiced consonant. At 2:00 AM after three glasses of Dalaran vintage, precision is the first casualty.

Laughter erupted at the bar table, light and unrestrained. Outside the Arcatina’s windows, space and time continued their heavy, serious march—but here in the corner booth, three women raised their glasses once more, singing and bantering long into the night.
