Lulureese and the Art of Petting: The Rescue of J'imothy

Table of Contents

Silvermoon scholars saw an unstable arcane anomaly. Lulureese heard a muffled squeak. A hundred stacks of magical barrier, one patient troll druid, and the heartwarming beginning of an inseparable duo.

The grand salon on the upper tier of Silvermoon City was designed for high elven contemplation.

Polished marble reflected the afternoon sun in ribbons of cream and liquid copper. Gilded archways framed twilight gardens outside, and near an ornate mahogany easel, paint palettes lay arranged by color temperature. It was quiet, immaculate, and utterly dignified.

Except for the purple humming sphere hovering three feet off the floor near the dining chaise.

And the seven-foot tall Darkspear troll sitting cross-legged directly in front of it.

One Hundred Layers of Arcane Nonsense

Sin’dorei magisters had walked past the shimmering purple orb all morning, adjusting their collars and offering polite, elevated rationalizations.

“A minor planar residue,” one had murmured into his ledger.
“An avant-garde kinetic sculpture,” an apprentice painter had suggested reverently.

Lulureese had stopped because she heard a sneeze.

Not an arcane sneeze. A tiny, raspy, distinctly furry sneeze.

“Hey there, little heart,” Lulu had whispered, setting down her heavy gathering pack with a soft clatter of peacebloom stems and copper ore. “You stuck in dere?”

Above her brow, nestled comfortably inside her Kaldorei Queen’s Tiara, Pepe gave an affirmative chirrup. On her birchwood Cenarion pauldron, Ribbert the frog blinked with heavy, measured skepticism. Ribbert’s posture made it clear that whatever was inside that sphere was almost certainly going to demand snacks that currently belonged to him.

Lulureese focused her senses. Her unit frame locked onto the anomaly:

“One hundred,” Lulu noted cheerfully, rolling up her sleeves and settling her sturdy traveler shoes flat against the cool marble. “Dat’s okay. Good tings take time.”

She didn’t summon wrath or fire. She didn’t call down astral meteors that might scorch the delicate blood-elf rugs. Instead, she lifted both hands, fingers spread, and called upon the gentle, radiant frequencies of the moon and the vernal soil.

Two vibrant pink-gold beams of celestial warmth extended from her palms, bathing the shimmering ward.

Tick. Ninety-eight.
Tick. Ninety-four.

Every couple of seconds, the arcane barrier shuddered, spitting out volatile pink swirlies across the floorboards. High elven patrons gasped and edged toward the balconies. Lulu simply leaned slightly to the left, swaying her torso with practiced druidic rhythm while keeping her channel unbroken.

“Easy now,” she hummed, singing a quiet, melodic Loa cradle-song under her breath. “Almos’ dere. Jus’ peel back da peel, like a ripe sunfruit.”

Tick. Forty.
Tick. Twelve.
Tick. One.

With a sound like a soap bubble popping inside a crystal bell—plink—the purple barrier disintegrated into harmless glittering motes.

Tumbling out of the shattered ward onto the marble was not an ancient horror, nor a manifested nightmare.

It was a very round, very ruffled, masked raccoon.

Lulureese Rescues J’imothy

He landed on his plump belly with a soft whump, shook his ringed tail vigorously, and sneezed once more. Around his stubby neck hung a tiny silver chain bearing a carved Stubby Whistle. His black button eyes blinked in the warm Silvermoon sunlight, wide and bewildered.

Lulureese didn’t move away. She didn’t stand up. She immediately sank to her knees, leaning forward with a smile so wide and luminous it rivaled the Sunwell itself.

Instantly, her cast bar swapped:

[Channeling: Petting]

Her warm lilac hands reached out, scratching gently right behind the raccoon’s rounded ears. Soft golden-green healing motes sparkled around her fingertips, smoothing his ruffled fur and easing the arcane static from his whiskers.

“Look at you,” Lulu beamed, her voice a purr of pure delight. “Look at dis handsome boy. What you doin’ trapped in an elven parlor, eh? You belong out in da grass, sniffin’ roots and causin’ sweet trouble.”

The raccoon leaned heavily into her palm, closing his eyes and emitting a low, vibrating chuff of pure relief.

On her shoulder, Ribbert hopped forward half an inch. The frog inspected the raccoon’s snout, then the bandit-mask markings, then the stubby whistle. He let out a single, gravelly croak.

Translation: He may stay, but breadcrumbs are non-negotiable.

“His name is J’imothy,” Lulureese announced to the empty gilded pavilion, reaching into her pocket to produce a handful of dried moonberries. “He told me himself.”

Pepe fluttered his wings atop her tiara, singing a victory fanfare. J’imothy eagerly took the berries with tiny, dexterous paws, chewing with frantic joy before climbing right into the fold of Lulureese’s leather vest.

The warband had another mouth to feed. And Lulureese had never been happier.
