Zyneese: The Tea Before the Frost
Sarcasm is efficient, but tea doesn’t require a counter-argument. Drink before the ice remembers who we are.

The Story Hook (One-Liner) #
“The spell requires absolute zero. The tea requires eighty-five degrees. She can hold both in the same breath and make you feel foolish for asking.”
Tactical Chronicle: Five Minutes of Chamomile #
Twilight pools in the alcove of the Violet Citadel’s highest balcony. Far below, the city lanterns are flickering alive against the mountain shadow, casting long amber and indigo ribbons across the cobblestones. The optical bloom softens the harsh crystal edges of the Kirin Tor spires into warm, glowing embers.
Zyneese sits sideways on the stone ledge, boots tucked under the hem of her dark blue coat. Her gold half-rim glasses rest midway down her nose, catching the dying sunset. In her left hand, a delicate porcelain cup sends thin curls of chamomile steam into the freezing mountain air. With her right index finger, she idly sketches a containment circle in the frost forming along the balustrade.
The rune glows softly, an intricate geometry of pale cyan and deep void-violet, humming with barely restrained glacial pressure. Yet she doesn’t cast. She watches the ice expand, then touches the rim of the cup to the outer ring. The heat meets the cold with a sharp, whispered hiss, melting the rune cleanly away into harmless vapor.
“Reyneese is rearranging the inventory again,” she murmurs to the empty twilight, a subtle, feline smile curving her lips. “Freyneese is measuring root vegetables. If I don’t drink this before the ice refreezes, someone will ask for a shield ward.”
She takes a quiet sip, eyes narrowing slightly as the warmth reaches her chest. For three hundred heartbeats, there is no void whisper, no perimeter breach, and no warband ledger. Just tea, five thousand feet above Lordaeron, before the world asks for frost again.
Linguistic Note: In high Thalassian, the verb to thaw (doral’dan) is derived from the word for letting down one’s guard. Zyneese only uses the low Thalassian root, which refers exclusively to spring gardening.
