“Her ice walls keep out the Void, the past, and clumsy fools. Getting past them requires either immense patience or an invitation she will never admit offering.”

Tactical Chronicle: The Perimeter of Glacial Glass
#

The golden hour light strikes the crystalline balustrade of the high balcony in Telogrus, bending through violet-tinted void glass until the air hums with prismatic bloom. Far below, the astral abyss curls in endless, hungry silence. High above it all, Zyneese stands perfectly still, an island of glacial precision against the cosmic drift.

She adjusts her delicate gold-wire half-rim spectacles with the tip of one manicured finger, her chin tilted at that measured, calculated angle that makes lesser mages nervous. Her chestnut hair—rippling with iridescent purple sheen under the twilight radiance—rests smoothly over one shoulder. Between her palms, temperature plummets. Frost motes assemble themselves not with the chaotic rage of Dalaran evokers, but with the millimeter-perfect cadence of master tailoring.

A crystalline frost rune spins into existence before her breastplate, its azure light catching the central amethyst nestled in her pearl-white bodice.

“Vyrneese brings home another petrified pebble, Akaneese is burning through another spool of silk ribbon, and Reyneese hasn’t slept in thirty-six hours,” she murmurs aloud to the empty twilight, the signature feline curve of her lips softening into an amused smirk. “If I don’t anchor the perimeter wards, this entire warband will collapse under the weight of its own ridiculous enthusiasm.”

With a subtle flick of her wrist, she releases the rune. It glides over the parapet, detonating silently into a web of shimmering diamond dust that settles across the warband’s lower quarters—a pristine ward of sub-zero stasis that keeps out roaming ethereal horrors while locking in the hearth-warmth.

She will tell Reyneese tomorrow morning that it was merely an ambient calibration test. She will say she was simply bored.

Linguistic Note: In Thalassian, the word for barrier (thal’as) and sanctuary (shal’dore) share the exact same root consonant. When Zyneese says leave me alone, she usually means stand where I can see you.

In the Starveil Warband, steel and flame breach the gate, but it is Zyneese’s calculating frost that ensures there is still a home standing when the battle ends.
