“They built her to break empires, but watch her dimpled smile when the mountain cracks open to reveal a pocket of starry amethyst.”

Tactical Chronicle: The Geode on the Ridge

The twilight wind off the Thaldraszus peaks carries the scent of pine needles and lightning. Golden hour spills across the dragon-carved parapets of Valdrakken, softening ancient granite with a thick, honey-colored optical bloom. Floating pollen and dust motes ignite in the low amber sun, drifting lazily through the warm mountain air like tiny falling stars.

Vyrneese sits cross-legged on the dizzying edge of the cliff wall, unbothered by the sheer thousand-foot drop below. Her heavy crimson plate armor—forged with curved dragon-scale trim and gleaming gold filigree—glows molten in the setting sun. Her massive bronze shield, scarred by titan sentinels and primal proto-drakes, rests planted upright in the gravel behind her back like an iron headstone.

In her visage form, she looks human—athletic, tall, her fair porcelain skin flushed peach by the crisp mountain breeze. Her vibrant red-pink ponytail, wrapped in weathered linen cord, flutters softly over her left shoulder. But her warm honey-brown eyes, illuminated by flecks of inner dragonflame, are locked on something far smaller than an invading legion.

Cradled in her heavy gauntlets is a cracked basalt stone. When she pried it loose from the fault line an hour ago, it split neatly in two, uncovering an inner hollow of raw, glittering purple quartz crystals that drink the golden sunset and scatter it into hundreds of tiny prismatic flares.

She doesn’t breathe. Her wide, dimpled grin breaks across her face—pure, radiant, completely unarmored.

“Look at it,” she murmurs, her deep voice resonant with childlike awe as Zyneese’s quiet footsteps approach along the trail. “Neltharion made me to break things until they stopped moving. But the deep stone was making this while I was asleep. It didn’t ask for a war. It just grew.”

Zyneese stops beside the planted shield, folding her arms. The void elf studies the stone, then glances down at the warrior whose shield has intercepted a hundred lethal blows meant for the warband.

“It’s nineteen,” Zyneese says softly, her usual sarcastic edge entirely absent in the twilight haze. “Your rock pouch has room for twenty before the seam bursts.”

“Then I’ll sew a bigger pouch,” Vyrneese beams, holding the sparkling geode up to catch the very last ray of the sun.

Linguistic Note: In ancient Draconic, Nelth-vyr signifies ‘unyielding anvil’. In the vernacular of the Starveil Warband, Vyrneese has quietly rewritten her own title: the one who catches falling boulders and turns them into cherished gifts.

When twilight fades into midnight and the horn of battle echoes across the crags, the ancient vanguard will step between darkness and her companions without flinching. But here, bathed in OVA bloom and 35mm film grain, the weapon rests—and the living soul remembers how to wonder.
