“Filed means she knows which drawer. Not opening it is the only ritual she has not yet perfected.”

Tactical Chronicle: The Minute Before the Tincture
#

Dawn has not finished arriving over the sapphire canals. The lanterns are still lit. On the private terrace, nightbloom mist hangs low enough to catch the first amber edge of the sun, and the optical bloom turns every stone edge into a soft violet halo.

Shiyaorieese is not dressed yet. The understructure sits folded on the lacquer table beside a stoppered vial of nightsong tincture. Her midnight-purple hair is loose. The shame-scars at her collarbone are simply there, silvered tributaries in the grain of the light, neither hidden nor announced. The rapier rests on the balustrade as if she set it down and forgot the performance of setting it down.

Her fingers rest on a thin ledger she does not open. Inside is one morning — early, unguarded, before the boning and before the glamour — when someone looked at her and did not change their face. She knows the page. She does not turn it.

“Not today,” she says, voice still low, not yet pitched. She unstoppers the vial. The ritual resumes. The drawer stays closed. The warband will see her later, composed, and will not know they almost met the minute she keeps.

Linguistic Note: In old Suramar court speech, filed (未開mikō) is not refusal. It is a promise that the document still exists.
