The Story Hook (One-Liner) #
“Everyone salutes the flawless armor of the Silver Hand’s finest, never realizing she is counting the minutes until she can unlace her boots and bake honeyed biscuits.”
Tactical Chronicle: The Weight of Unbent Gold #
The courtyard colonnade of the sanctuary catches the sinking sun, saturating the weathered stone arches with rich amber optical bloom. Slanted dust motes float through the warm air like ancient scripture suspended in amber. Here, far from the roaring battlefronts of Azeroth and the deafening prayers of the Grand Cathedral, silence is an unfamiliar luxury.
Avelreese stands with both gauntleted hands resting over the pommel of Voror, her massive runeblade planted point-down into the flagstones. Her deep burgundy hair, tied back in a loose, side-swept braid, glints with crimson fire under the twilight rays. A soft sigh slips past her lips—not of defeat, but of profound, bone-deep decompression.
Her black, gold, and ruby Judgement plate catches the sunset rim light, each filigreed edge blooming with subtle chromatic radiance. She is the picture of resolute nobility—the kind of paladin young squires sketch in their notebooks before ever tasting the ash of war.
Yet underneath the gilded cowl she leaves unclasped, her chocolate-brown eyes are soft, searching the horizon.
“They keep drafting oaths faster than blacksmiths can quench steel,” she murmurs softly, glancing at the carved scroll banners draped across her pauldrons. “If Reyneese asks for one more tactical perimeter sweep before dinner, I will personally requisition every teapot in Dalaran and declare a mandatory truce.”
The gentle amber luminescence radiating along the serrated edge of Voror pulses with a soothing warmth—not the scorching fire of holy retribution, but the steady, enduring glow of a hearth fire waiting to welcome tired travelers home.
She doesn’t hate the crusade; she simply loves the people it protects far more than the glory it promises.
Linguistic Note: Her name in the old records is paired with Àiwēi (艾薇)—echoing the ancient verse Cǎi Wēi, the warrior who marches steadfast through frost and thorn while quietly counting every harvest until the return home.
When darkness finally breaches the cathedral gates, Avelreese will raise her blade first and yield last. But right now, in the golden halo of dusk, she allows herself simply to exist: an unyielding guardian who dares to dream of peace.
