The Saturday Surprise 2025.0125
Why I do write, and does touch typing matters, how a habit, and a platform have brought me a paradigm shift to writing.
Another week has gone by, that I’m learning how to improve my writing and making it a far more happier experience. I really don’t want to drag my feet “or more like dragging my body and fingers, hands” to type something out weekly. I really don’t hope that I’m carrying this feeling or burden having to type something weekly. Probably I think I found the answer.
I need a better typing habits, and a keyboard. The touch typing experience could significantly improve the feeling to write, and possibly reducing the pains to do something write up to wrap up the week. My recommendation, used to be keybr.com (help me to learn my mastery on the keys), nowadays would be the monkeytype.com and my profile here (https://monkeytype.com/profile/Reyneese) . Being able to typing smoothly, with better accuracy without having to look at the keyboard, that would be a blessing, to reduce to the ‘counter-feelings’ of dragging to write. So that’s one PLUS points to help me adopt the writing lifestyle.
Secondly the reason, to write. This is a complicated , troubling question. I have been asking what’s the reason that I’m writing. Any benefit, or would that be a waste of time. Was it to wait for one viral post that eventually bring in a flock of readers, or a windfall of money from the sky, like buying and winning a lottery. Probably not.. and never a good motivation. At this juncture, I could possibly summarise the benefit is to maintain the brain and hands coordination, such that I could still write and typing at the speed of my thought. If I’m not fast enough, but good to help me to channel out the idea in my mind into the words on screen. The key reason , is to have that kind of ‘brain-hands’ exercise, to stay fit physically for communication, and voice out the idea more effectively. After all, at current age, I come to believe, having structured, and meaningful conversation helps to connect to people, and realise the the most in our life. My reason for writing in short, to keep my mind sharp, and hoping to improve my flow of thoughts for conversation.
Third realisation, would be reviewing the equipments, and typing , writing habits. Do I have to sit in front of the computer and write? or do I have something more portable that help me with producing content. I used to have a setup, where I need to sit in front of my computer, and writing in Markdown format, source controlled them, and I could customise the display, styling and have 100% full control of my own materials. I thought that was cool and awesome; because it’s portable and possibly future ready! Just that over time I realise that become another struggle, because of the limited time to maintain it, and most of my time spend in debugging why it’s doesn’t work. All that little energy time or brain power, aka “Will Power” that I had at those moment, were sliced off by those trivial matter. Hence I have found Substack, iPad, and potentially reconfiguring my writing equipment these something more accessible. Elsewhere on the writing habit, I could possibly just tell myself lock and limit it within half an hour, for that output, and quickly turning the idea into the ‘implementation’ (a blog post) on the screen.
Hence, I shall maintain this series, to remind me to put those weekly discoveries into a short Saturday Surprises, be it over time, helping myself to realise the benefit of pen-down the thoughts, experience, and learning to carry a more fruitful and fulfilling living. Less moment of self-doubts, more moment of peace,
